Families CAN be Together Forever!
Aloooooooooooooooha!
Man...the other day it was
Friday...
and I realized that I really miss
Aloha Fridays!
BUT...then I remembered that I
can make every Friday an Aloha Friday. Fridays as a missionary are
LIKE the best! We get to plan for three hours…which I love to do! I think I am
turning into a planner Planning
will be so much easier when we actually get I Pads!!! (but who knows when that
will happen. I may already be home). I can’t believe that I only have 5 months
left! May just flew by and I’m sure June
will too! Sister Herman and I are going to the Temple on Wednesday and we have
a mission meeting on Friday…so that equals a very fast week!
I have so, so, so many funny, crazy,
and spiritual stories!
FIRST OF
ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE HAD A FAMILY
BAPTISM!!!! It was the best day of my missionary life! If I could describe it
in one word, I would say it was: SPECATCUALAR. You really cannot help but tear
up (and by tear up, I mean spiritually bawl your eyes out). It really brought
new meaning to the song “Families can be Together Forever". It was so special because of all of the trials that were overcome before the
baptism. Trials because this family has literally gone through everything
(cancer, unemployment, child rebellion etc.) and crazy things because we got to
the baptism and there was no water in the font. NONE!
See what had happened was…..there
were supposed to be Stake Primary Baptisms. The building coordinator confirmed that
with us. Well obviously there were no such Stake Primary Baptisms…instead there
was an empty font and only one hour half to fill it (btw…it takes three hours
to fill it). So…..what do the sister missionaries do in that situation?
PITCHERS!!!! WE CARRIED SO MANY PITCHERS OF WATER TO THE FONT THAT MY HANDS AND
ARMS WERE SHAKING! (it is sort of a good thing though because morning sports
was not my greatest workout that morning…only one set of elders showed up and
we played the infamous game of FOUR SQUARE…it is really quite a shame that the
English Elder in my district didn’t show up…we related each square to a kingdom
of glory…oh the life of a missionary). Anyway, we were able to get the water
about halfway filled by 1:45…but the baptism started at 2 so we were still in
trouble. Then a miraculous thing happened: a youth from the ward showed up and
said “You don’t have both faucets turned on”….then he turned the other one on!
IT WAS A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!!! The font was filled by 2:10 and then it was
picture time. I am so
grateful that the Lord heard our prayers.
As for the actual baptism, the
whole thing was beautiful. We could all really relate to the talks, the elders brought their
investigator, and even though the water was cold, Wanda, Juan, Christopher, and
Gigi were all smiling so big! They were all just beaming so brightly! Gigi said
that she was cold when she got into the font, but after she was baptized, she
was so warm. I know that that was the Spirit confirming to her that what she
did was setting her on the right path. Heavenly Father's love was all around us!
I am very grateful to each member and family in the ward that reached out to
the Brunos!
Tonight they have invited us to
their house for dinner! It will be Dominican Republican food! I am excited to
have a taste of the Hispanic culture again!
Well…That was the highlight of my
week!
I have been studying about the
priesthood a lot this week because I am giving a talk on it! I love how Preach
my Gospel talks about the priesthood so simply.
Here is my favorite quote from this month’s
Ensign:
"We properly pray for the
safety and success of the full-time missionaries throughout the world. And a
common element in many of our prayers is a request that the missionaries will
be led to individuals and families who are prepared to receive the message of
the Restoration. But ultimately it is my responsibility and your responsibility
to find people for the missionaries to teach. Missionaries are full-time
teachers; you and I are full-time finders. And you and I as lifelong
missionaries should not be praying for the full-time missionaries to do our
work! If you and I would truly pray and ask in faith, as did Joseph Smith—if we
would pray with the expectation to act and not just to express—then the work of
proclaiming the gospel would move forward in a remarkable way."
by Elder David A. Bednar, of the quorum of the twelve apostles
Here are the Question of your SOULS:
How are you enjoying spring in
Paradise?
Las Vegas has no spring….it is
already pretty roasty! Just the
way I like it!
Other than your scriptures, what
is your favorite thing you took on your mission?
Pictures!!!! I treasure all my
pictures! They are tied to so many memories! Thank goodness I don’t get
homesick!
What have you learned about being
a companion...when it's hard and easy?
Luckily all my companions have
been wonderful. I have learned to be a good listener. It is easy to work with your
companion when you both have the same desires to serve God!
When do you meet your new mission
president President Snow? What do you
know about him?
Well I saw a picture of him and I will meet him in July. I am hoping for the best…but nothing can beat the
Neiders.
We are finishing the Book of
Mormon this week in seminary. What are
some of your favorite parts in the Book of Mormon?
I love 2 Nephi 2! I could read
that over and over! I love reading the chapters that talk about the Atonement of
Jesus Christ.
I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!
Love,
Sister Tucker
