Letter Home--Biking Adventures! Two months out!!!!

MY DEAREST FAMILY AND FRIENDS,

Que paso? How's it going? What is happening in the world? Did Kate Middleton have her baby? What is the weather like?  I think the high here this last week was 118° :) AND THAT WAS JUST IN JUNE! AHHH!  It has totally gotten hotter since I got here!  Before it felt like it was walking through a blow dryer but now it feels like the kitchen with no AC and you are cooking lasagna and you open the oven and just sit in front of it forever. That is how it feels all the time just  like a nice hot oven!  Yay!

On Tuesday we had companion exchanges so I got to go out with the sister training leader for 24 hours.  She trained my own companion so it was really cool to be with the trainer of  my trainer. She is a native Spanish speaker from Mexico and she is just the nicest person!  Her name is Sister Celis and we have had quite an interesting day on Tuesday.  First of all neither of us could drive and we had tons of appointments all over our area.  Sister Celis can't drive because of medical reasons and we called into the mission office to make sure I could drive for that day only to find out that a copy of my license is not on file and they do not have my DMV driving records or my signature to drive. It was great news!

So we started calling members for rides to appointments.  Not being able to drive is a great excuse to get lessons with members present.  I have found that these are the best lessons because the member can better bear their own testimony and tell their personal conversion story.  Also there is a wonderful spirit in lessons with members there and they can speak real Spanish:).  So this is my own personal advice to all the members back home GO OUT WITH THE MISSIONARIES AND SHARE YOUR TESTIMONY!  It is not hard or awkward.  The missionaries take care of all that stuff.  Just go out and help build the kingdom:)  Don't wait until the missionaries ask you!  Ask when you can go out with the missionaries for an hour or two!  If missionaries aren't totally psyched, then they are super lame.  ALSO, DON'T FEED THEM DESSERT! THEY DON'T NEED IT!  I can guarantee that the elders have cookies in their apartment that they eat every day.  The last three months of their mission, they will regret it and they will start dieting and it will not work.  Trust me!  I have seen the cycle with my own eyes :)

Anyway...back to my exchanges with Sister Celis :) So we called everyone we knew in the ward with a car and a license. Everyone said no or didn't pick up.  It was very sad.  So Hermana Celis and I coated ourselves with sunscreen and suited up in our bike attire and biked from 12 until one for an appointment all the way across the area.  It took us the whole hour and it was at least 105° with no shade.  Like I said, it felt like an oven. The plan was that we were going to take over the lessons from some elders who were teaching a lady named Maria.  They had already taught her the first lesson in English and realized at the end that she understands better in Spanish.  So they called us and asked us to come on Tuesday (the day of exchanges) and take over the lessons.  So we got to the house on time and the elders showed up about five minutes late.  They rolled up in a car. Oh the irony.  They got out and said, "Now we feel really lame.  You sisters biked here."   We were all like. "Umm...yeah." (We are too cool for you:) SISTER POWER!  The elders passed Maria off to us and we checked for understanding (she learned nothing:)  So we taught the first lesson again and it was pretty awesome!

Then we biked to a referral, then to another, then to another! It was great!  Finally we got to bike to dinner. P.S. My bike is the best ever! I love it!  It is pretty and it goes fast!  Thanks again Craguns!

I love you all  x 100000! I am praying for you every day:)

OOXXoXXXOoXX,

Hermana Tucker
