First Dance

Conner and I had a pretty busy Winter Semester to say the least.

It included:
wedding planning
internships
jobs
and lots of classes

Somewhere in the whirlwind of addressing invitations and taking tests we never agreed on a song that we would dance to for our first dance as a married couple. It's really not a big deal, but it kinda is. Probably more for me than for him. As a little girl I pictured myself with prince charming whisking me off my feet, in a beautiful white dress, with a sweet but triumphant song in the background. It would be a song that was just our song.

There were lots of songs that would've fit the bill. Like:

Love Story by Taylor Swift
I Choose You by Sara Bareilles
You are Gold by The National Parks
Not Even The King By Alicia Key

Really the list could go on and on.

Luckily we both could agree on one thing, which was that the song could not be longer than three minutes. Surprisingly, that  really narrows it down.

Well... the day arrived and we still had no song. As we were driving away from the temple I brought it up my concern to Conner. He assured me that he had it all figured out. And he did. Kind of.

When the moment came for him to escort me to the dance floor a song came on that I didn't recognize. As we danced I was too distracted by the man I had just married to really notice the song selection. It was the most perfect and awkward dance of my life. Conner and I both agree that it is so weird for a room full of people to watch you slow dance. We prefer our kitchen where we can be all alone.

A few months later Conner and I were in the car. Conner was driving and I was the DJ. Normally I try to get Conner to tell me an artist or genre that he wants to listen to, because if it were up to me I would listen to the same two songs over and over again. Conner said that he didn't care, so I decided that I would play our song. Then I realized that I didn't even know what song that was. Conner told me that it was Angel by Jack Johnson, so I played it. I found the song to be sweet.

I asked Conner why he chose that song. He said that he would show me why once we got home. When we walked through the door of our little cottage Conner went straight for his ukulele. The last time he had played it for me was in a video he had made me for Christmas that was a compilation of the photos we had taken when we were dating.

As Conner started strumming away trying to find the chords that he had secretly been practicing I found out that he had plans to record himself playing and singing the song, but because of the craziness of our schedules he wasn't able to fit it in. Once he found his notes he began to sing and I began to cry. I'm crying now just think about it. The words to the song were perfect, and sweet, and triumphant.

Here are the words to Angel by Jack Johnson.

I've got an angel
She doesn't wear any wings
She wears a heart that can melt my own
She wears a smile that can make me want to sing

She gives me presents
With her presence alone
She gives me everything I could wish for
She gives me kisses on the lips just for coming home

She could make angels
I've seen it with my own eyes
You've got to be careful when you've got good love
Because the angels will just keep on multiplying

But you're so busy changing the world
Just one smile can change all of mine

We share the same soul
Oh oh oh oh oh ohh!
We share the same soul
Oh oh oh oh oh ohh!
We share the same soul
Oh oh oh oh oh ohh!
Oh oh oh oh oh ohh!

Mmmmm..

It was the most awesome moment, and that's why I wanted to blog about it. I love Conner Rockwood with all of my heart.

P.S. Conner and I do really like dancing.
